This course is designed for qualified electricians and designers who wish to further their training into design work and show a higher level of professional competence by completing one of the few Level 4 courses in electrical installation.

All successful delegates will receive a Design and Verification EAL Level 4 8231 qualification.

Who is it for?

This course is designed for qualified electricians and designers who wish to further their training into design work and show a higher level of professional competence by completing one of the few Level 4 courses in electrical installation.

What the course covers
  • A single knowledge unit covering: design calculations, the application of BS 7671, the application of related statutory and non statutory requirements and guidance in the safe and effective design of electrical installations.
  • The processes and practices involved in designing electrical installations. The emphasis is on the safe and ergonomic design of an installation, which complies with relevant statutes, regulations, industry standards and sound engineering practices.

This programme has a mix of taught sessions combined with a large design assignment. Assignment estimated at 70 to 100 hours.

Entry Requirements

All applicants must have a good level of written and spoken English, good mathematic skills and hold a Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation and/or Maintenance.

You will already be conversant with BS7671 (please see 18th Edition) and you will need a copy of: The Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018 (IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition) ISBN 978-1-78561-170-4 and a copy of the IET On Site Guide 18th Edition 2018 ISBN 978-1-78561-442-2. Other publications will be recommended by your tutor to assist in your studies and ultimate success.

Examination & Assessment

1) An assignment set by the EAL, or a real world project which matches the evidence and the assessment criteria to the equivalent complexity. Guide 70 to 100 hours in your own time. The assignment will be marked as pass or fail.

2) A written, controlled, knowledge assessment, taken at one of our centres, which is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Fail.

EAL certificate on successful completion, which is recognised by the JIB/ECS and the preferred qualification of the NICEIC and ELECSA.

This course is taught and examined in English.
